The Amtrak owned Providence Train Station is home to four tracks for passenger service and the Acela Express which is the United States’ only high-speed rail service. Along with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority the Providence Train Station provides service from Boston South Station all the way down to New York Penn Station and then on to Philadelphia, Baltimore and finally Washington, D.C.. The Providence Station has full length high-level platforms and has received 5 stars for wheelchair accessibility from thetravelingwheelchair.com which provides reviews and ratings for accessibility at particular locations. A new layover facility for MBTA commuters was completed in 2006 and allows MBTA to greatly increase their service to the area. Construction has already begun on a new station in Warwick, RI which will provide train service to T. F. Green Airport and should be completed in late 2009.
