Your Wedding Day Transportation Needs

Transportation may not be the first thing you think about, with all the other plans and preparation you have to make for your big day. However, it is one of the most important. How else are you going to be sure you get to the church on time?
While you can of course drive yourself, unexpected things can come up. Even a simple issue like a dead battery or flat tire can put a serious crimp in your plans and cause you a lot of unneeded extra stress and anxiety on what will most likely be the biggest day of your life.
Then there are your out-of-town guests to consider. How will they get to your wedding? For all these reasons, hiring a limo or other type of vehicle may be something you want to seriously consider. This is especially true if your ceremony and reception are being held in different locations.
Figuring out what type of vehicle to rent, how long you will need it for and how many vehicles you will need can be somewhat puzzling. To help you figure it all out, here are a few tips for choosing the right vehicles and getting the most bang for your buck:
Book Well in Advance
After you've set your date, decided on venues and how many attendants and out-of-town guests there will be, you will want to reserve your vehicle(s) at least six months in ahead of time. Many transportation companies can be booked up months in advance, especially during holiday times like New Years or prom season, and you don’t want to miss out and have the type of vehicle you want not be available. If you are planning to tie the knot during these periods, booking even nine months in advance is not a terrible idea.
Think Outside the Limousine
A limo is the classic ride, but it may not be suitable for your needs or personal style. Other options include luxury vehicles like cars or SUVs. These options also work well if you are trying to stretch your dollars. To decide how many and what type of vehicles you will need to rent, you need to know how many people you will need to transport.
Perhaps a luxury sedan, like a Mercedes Benz, Lincoln or a Cadillac SUV might suit you better for arriving at the church and for making your getaway after the reception. This will also foil your friend’s plans, as you know they are going to go all out in tricking out your own car with lots of cool decorations.
Renting a luxury sedan for you bridesmaids and groomsmen is also a good option. It will, usually, be cheaper than a limousine and will allow them their independence. This is a great option for allowing the people who stood up for you to come and go at will.
Many couples chose to just let their guests find their own transportation. However, if you would like to provide them all with a ride to, from and between your ceremony and reception, renting a bus might be worth considering. If you have a large wedding party, lots of friends and family coming in from out of town, or if you need to shuttle your entire guest list from one venue to the next, you may want to consider a large or small coach-style bus.
Length of Rental(s)
You will need to figure out if you want the vehicles for the entire time from pickup before the ceremony to drop off after the reception. While this is obviously the most expensive option, if you are working on a budget than you can usually book a pickup and drop off service. This way your limo and driver aren’t on the clock for the entire event.
Bear in mind that many limousine companies will sometimes have a minimum amount of time you will need to pay for. This means that even if you only need the car for a 10 minute ride to the church you still may have to pay the same rate as if you hired the car for an hour or more.
Keeping these tips in mind when planning your wedding will help lessen the stress of worrying about how you and your guest will get around on the biggest day of your life.
